What was the Problem?
Kmart distribution centres are a dynamic industrial working environment where both warehouse workers and a large-scale moving container straddle must operate in close proximity.
A safety concern was identified by Kmart after near misses involving pedestrians and the rolling container straddle at the Kmart distribution centre in Melbourne.
The Solution
Sensor Dynamics implemented an on-board pedestrian detection system that uses a custom trained object detection model and multiple cameras around the carrier, with near 360deg vision, to identify pedestrians within the allowed limits of the straddle.
If a pedestrian comes within dangerous proximity of the straddle, the driver will be immediately alerted in the cabin with a video of the incident being sent to Kmart management via a cloud hosted web portal.
